The increasing cultural diversity in Queensland population means that to be efficient services need to be culturally appropriate and responsive.
The value of community participation in the planning, delivery and evaluation of services is well established, engaging with multicultural communities is becoming increasingly important.
Multicultural communities especially newly arrived members are particularly unfamiliar with how to participate in public engagement processes. Some members of the multicultural communities might feel reluctant to get involved due to past negative experiences with previous governments or countries. Also due to lack of understanding of democratic processes or trust in government institutions.
Building trust capacity and resilience is the way to increase multicultural community participation.
You may want to consider, what you want to achieve from the engagement process, whom to involve, when to be required, and finally how to engage the Multicultural Communities. At Resilient Communities, we offer our expertise to assist organisations to efficiently engage multicultural communities and stakeholders through the planning, delivery and evaluation of services.
